JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Print & Prepress Systems Manager will be responsible for graphics communications as it relates to multi print disciplines in packaging, including procurement of manufacturing aspects for all physical tooling under the Baltic and Watertown facilities. The manager will also be responsible for overseeing six printing presses, plate room and prepress systems while managing relationships between Amgraph and its suppliers and vendors. The manager will drive color management opportunities with GMI, G7 and EGC work with the pressroom and prepress to guide in the selection of printing specifications to address production challenges.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee production workflow and ensure prepress files are submitted to Amgraph and vendors on time and in accordance with specific printing instructions. The manager will also:

  • Oversee prepress process (in-house and outsource)
    • Review complicated color and images before sending to plate vendors
  • Manage plate vendor contracts/quotes
    • Research latest plate and blanket technologies for Offset and Flexo
    • Manage competitive quoting for new printing equipment and auxiliary processes
    • Award plate suppliers based on trial results to third-party vendors
    • Manage vendor contracts with chief operating officer to achieve optimal terms
    • Perform cylinder engraving trials, stay abreast of latest tooling technologies
    • Represent Amgraph at trade conferences: GAA, FTA, DRUPA
  • Interact daily with various internal press operators and team members to create best print reproduction in Offset, Gravure and Flexo
  • Implement and calibrate color management systems throughout press rooms
  • Represent Print Management at meetings
  • Oversee and maintain integration of prepress systems
  • Oversee computer to plate room, and system and maintenance
  • Oversee and maintain server and backup systems in prepress

The Print & Prepress Systems Manager will be accountable for prepress files working with each press registration system and:

  • Work with tooling vendors to run Fingerprints based on print discipline
  • CIP3, Color Cert, PressSign, GMI certification
  • Anilox specification and procurement
  • Shaft, bridge, plate specifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Solid experience training production teams through the print management process in a wide range of formats, graphics, and color. Background partnering with vendors. Strong negotiating, influencing, and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to handle conflicts calmly and professionally.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study with 10+ years of progressive graphics/print reproduction/prepress systems experience. Demonstrated, extensive knowledge in:

  • Printing sciences
  • Print tooling specifications and sourcing
  • Offset, Flexo and Gravure printing presses and Digital Presses
  • All applicable safety and quality regulations
